Job Title: Library Assistant

Join the team at the Washington State Library as a Library Assistant, supporting the work of the library staff in the Washington State Penitentiary branches.

Job Summary:

This non-permanent position is responsible for providing support to the library staff, including processing backlog of materials, receiving and processing new materials, and assisting with other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Process backlog of materials from the Opening Day Collection and link materials in the Destiny circulation system
  • Receive and process new materials, linking them in the Destiny circulation system
  • Direct the work of incarcerated clerks and review and approve or correct materials processed by them
  • Shelve, shift, and shelf-read the collection
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned
Requirements:
  • Ability to read and write the English language
  • One year of office support and clerical experience
  • Ability to efficiently use a personal computer and applicable software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of experience working in a public library
Working Conditions:

This position requires standing for long periods with some sitting each day while working in a library/office environment with public contact. The core hours are Monday - Tuesday from 12:00PM - 8:30PM and Wednesday - Friday from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Occasional travel may be required.
