Job Summary

Amazon is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Applied Science Manager to lead our Computer Vision research team. As a key member of our AI Labs team, you will be responsible for driving research and innovation in computer vision and machine learning, and for developing and deploying scalable computer vision solutions that delight our customers.

About the Role

We are looking for a talented and passionate leader who can inspire and motivate a team of scientists to push the boundaries of what is possible in computer vision and machine learning. You will be responsible for developing and executing research plans, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that our research is translated into practical solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of scientists to develop and deploy scalable computer vision solutions
  • Develop and execute research plans to advance the state-of-the-art in computer vision and machine learning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that research is translated into practical solutions
  • Ensure that our research is aligned with the needs of our customers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including engineering, product, and business teams
Requirements
  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, or related discipline with focus on computer vision or machine learning
  • Scientific thinking and the ability to invent, a track record of thought leadership and contributions that have advanced the field
  • Publication record of papers at relevant top conferences in computer vision and machine learning
  • More than 5 years of experience conducting CV research and software development
  • More than 2 years of experience managing a team of scientists
  • Experience hiring, growing and retaining researchers
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience conducting research in computer vision and machine learning
  • 5+ years of experience leading research projects that include highly talented science teams responsible for developing and owning complex algorithms that go beyond the state of the art
  • 5+ years of experience managing research teams
  • Experience in the design, development, evaluation, deployment and updating of multiple customer facing computer vision and deep learning solutions
  • Experience in creating the right culture and environment to ensure a diverse group of people and skillsets can flourish and deliver true breakthrough science and innovation
