Position Overview

The Facilities Engineer at Viskase Companies, Inc. is responsible for overseeing and managing operations within the powerhouse sector, ensuring comprehensive oversight of HVAC systems, steam generation, building maintenance, and project management within the Engineering Department. This role focuses on optimizing the performance of personnel to achieve maximum operational efficiency while adhering to corporate policies and health and safety standards. Key areas of responsibility include powerhouse operations, water management, wastewater treatment, HVAC systems, and building infrastructure.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure the reliability and proper maintenance of essential plant utilities, including steam, water, electricity, glycol, and air, to minimize production losses and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Lead the powerhouse team in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs while prioritizing safety.
  • Manage raw water and wastewater treatment processes to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee Capital Expenditure projects related to the facilities under your jurisdiction.
  • Act as a backup supervisor within the maintenance division as required.
  • Comply with all applicable safety, human resource, and corporate policies.
  • Directly supervise hourly employees and contractors as necessary.
  • Accountable for departmental performance in safety, environmental standards, quality, production, and employee conduct.
  • Utilize sound judgment to make informed decisions based on factual analysis.
  • Apply technical knowledge to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Maintain high-quality work standards and expect the same from team members.
  • Proactively anticipate problems and understand their implications across departments.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment, sharing critical information with all stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Civil) or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance management within a manufacturing environment that operates continuously.
  • Proven leadership experience managing a team of at least 5 skilled employees.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and organize schedules effectively.
  • Experience with boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, water treatment, electrical maintenance, and compressed air systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with a collaborative approach.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to implement change effectively.
  • Initiative and creativity in addressing challenges.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications, including MS Office.
