Job Summary

The Clinical Dietitian is a key member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team at UNC Health, working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to patients. This role requires a strong understanding of the Nutrition Care Process and the ability to apply it in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' nutritional needs using standardized practice and critical thinking, identifying nutrient requirements according to age, disease, and individual needs.
  • Act as a resource person for the specialty team assigned, serving as a liaison between other medical specialties and ancillary services.
  • Assist in achieving compliance with regulatory agency standards, such as the Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to continuously improve the safety and quality of care.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor nutrition care plans, participating in the discharge planning process and providing education using established behavioral change techniques.
  • May lead, direct, and manage the work assigned to others within the department, documenting all aspects of nutrition care in the medical record.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a US regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Completion of a Coordinated Program in Dietetics or Dietetic Internship accredited by ACEND of no less than 900 hours (1200 hours for graduates of programs beginning 2012).
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) and Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.
Work Environment

This position will cover three UNCPN clinics - Orange Family Medical Group, Chapel Hill Internal Medicine, and UNC Primary Care Mebane. UNC Health is a qualifying organization for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
