Job Summary:
The Phlebotomist at St. Charles Health System processes laboratory orders and performs phlebotomy procedures with minimal patient discomfort. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse patients and healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams to ensure accurate and efficient specimen collection.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures following established protocols and guidelines.
- Process laboratory orders and maintain accurate records.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure smooth specimen processing and testing.
- Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a positive working relationship with patients and colleagues.
Requirements:
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Previous direct patient care experience and/or college science background preferred.
Working Conditions:
This role requires standing, walking, and keyboard operation for extended periods. The ability to lift, carry, and push/pull equipment is also necessary. The work environment may involve exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other biohazards.
