Main Function:

Develops and implements individualized treatment plans for patients with speech and language disorders, utilizing evidence-based practices and principles of the speech therapy profession.

Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality services to patients, including inpatients, outpatients, and residents of Skilled Nursing Facilities.

Reports to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehabilitative Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:Clinical
  • Evaluates patient needs and formulates treatment plans to achieve measurable speech therapy goals, in accordance with physician prescriptions.
  • Prepares written documentation, including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and other required documents.
  • Communicates with physicians on patient care and progress.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to ensure efficient coordination of patient care plans.
  • Provides guidance and direction to staff members assigned to assist in patient care.
  • Provides education and training to patients, family members, and caregivers.
  • Maintains department equipment and supplies.
  • Develops and standardizes new speech therapy services and products as needed.
Education, Institutional and Community Involvement, Other
  • Provides inservice educational opportunities for Arnot Health staff, physicians, and others.
  • Participates in continuing education relevant to professional and personal learning needs.
  • Participates in AOMC and departmental committees as required.
  • Demonstrates professional image, attitudes, and behaviors consistent with the philosophy of the profession and Arnot Health.
  • Participates in the Quality in Action process.
  • Attends annual mandatory education programs as required by position.
  • Provides age-appropriate care to patients of all ages.
  • Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying customer/patient needs by interacting with them in a friendly and caring way.

Education:

Must be licensed or eligible to obtain a license to practice speech and language pathology in NYS at the time of hire.

Experience:

Experience in a hospital setting is preferred.

CPR Requirements:

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 90 days of hire date.

Physical Demands:

Standing most of the time, with intermittent exertion in positioning, lifting, transferring patients, equipment, or materials.

Exposure Category:

Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
