Key Responsibilities

  • Execute advanced electrical work in the hydroelectric and electrical trades.
  • Conduct calibration and testing of generator relay protection systems.
  • Engage in the revision and enhancement of standard operating procedures, operational manuals, and guidelines for newly introduced or modified equipment.
  • Manage control panels, exciters, disconnects, power circuit breakers, and load and voltage regulation equipment within a power facility.
  • Operate large gates and valves to ensure appropriate river flows and facilitate the watering and unwatering of penstocks, scroll cases, and draft tubes.
  • Monitor and verify power control systems for correct operational sequences and thoroughness of control.
  • Synchronize units on the bus and manage transmission line breakers as directed by supervisory personnel, or as necessary to fulfill operational requirements.
  • Handle high voltage switches and associated devices in line with operational protocols and document clearances as per the Bureau of Reclamation Hazardous Energy Control Program (HECP).
  • Maintain comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly reports on energy generation, river flow metrics, outages, weather conditions, and other operational records, including the plant log book.
  • Oversee the integrated operation of all plant generation resources and voltage management, including inspections of the plant and water facilities, as well as switchyard and dam operations.

A valid State Driver's License must be maintained at all times, as the role requires the operation of government vehicles on public roads. Failure to maintain a valid license will result in removal from the position.
A successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician is required to certify the ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be necessary if a comparable agency-approved examination was conducted within the last 12 months.

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate adequate experience and training to fulfill the responsibilities of this position with minimal supervision. Qualifications will be assessed based on the information provided in the resume and responses to assessment questions. Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined through the evaluation of job elements. Candidates must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and achieve an average of at least 2 points across all job elements to be considered qualified for this position.
