Being part of a smaller firm allows our employees to engage in various facets of the business and projects, which encompass developing scopes of work, preparing budgets, executing subsurface exploration programs, mapping geologic and engineering site conditions, conducting laboratory tests, drafting, analyzing collected data, and composing reports or correspondence. Additional administrative duties may involve overseeing the organization of our in-house laboratory, managing files, editing documents, maintaining records, answering calls, and managing equipment or vehicle maintenance operations.

Success in this role entails providing assistance and support to both technical and administrative staff and colleagues to enhance the optimization of billable time and ensure the timely delivery of quality work products and solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate fieldwork with subcontractors (including drillers and excavators) and secure necessary permits from local authorities.
  • Oversee drilling and test pit/trench operations, including logging borings/pits/trenches and the installation of piezometers or slope inclinometers.
  • Create precise slope profiles and field maps.
  • Document and record field data and observations clearly and concisely.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of field subsurface exploration and mapping techniques.
  • Conduct laboratory testing accurately.
  • Prepare high-quality illustrations of boring logs, maps, cross-sections, and conceptual design figures for publication.
  • Assist in analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting collected data and measurements.
  • Support senior staff in preparing technical reports, including compiling analytical data and drafting accurate and grammatically correct descriptions of site conditions.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of engineering geology and geotechnical engineering concepts and project requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in engineering, geology, or earth science from an accredited university.

  • Willingness to accommodate variable schedules, including potential late-night or weekend work.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the selected candidate to maintain an acceptable driving record that is insurable by our insurance provider and the ability to travel to project sites as necessary.
  • The construction-related aspects of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology may necessitate occasional overtime and, in rare instances, travel outside the local area overnight.
  • The physical demands of this position include the ability to perform fieldwork (including lifting and maneuvering equipment weighing up to 75 lbs) in various weather conditions.
