Position Overview:
The role of the Bus Monitor is essential in ensuring a secure and orderly environment for students during transportation. This position operates primarily during the school year.
Work Schedule:
Hours of operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Tuesdays or early release days, hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline and safety among students.
- Ensure the safety of children while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus.
- Support the bus driver by following their instructions and maintaining a calm atmosphere.
- Provide training and technical assistance as required by the Transportation department.
- Help children find their seats and ensure they are securely fastened during transit.
- Monitor student behavior to prevent distractions for the driver.
- Maintain a positive demeanor and communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ensure children disembark safely and only release them to authorized individuals.
- Report any concerns regarding a child's well-being to the appropriate school staff.
- Familiarize yourself with the bus route and communicate necessary information to substitute drivers.
- Keep an updated list of authorized riders and track daily attendance.
- Conduct end-of-route checks to ensure no children are left on the bus.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, allowing for effective interaction with students, parents, and colleagues. A high school diploma is required, with additional education or training being preferred. Experience working with children is also beneficial.
Compensation:
Hourly wage to be determined.
