Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer with 10+ years of design/field experience to join our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects involving steel, concrete, timber, and masonry, including new buildings, historical restoration, and renovation of existing buildings.

The ideal candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills, be experienced with AutoCAD and computer-aided analysis/design of structures, and have knowledge of BIM software.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and performance standards development for construction documents and submittals.
  • Organize and manage structural engineering design projects by identifying short-term and long-range issues, preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources.
  • Develop structural design plans by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying structural engineering concepts, approaches, techniques, and criteria; adapting and modifying structural mechanics options; developing and evaluating new structural architectures and algorithms; performing design calculations relating to foundations and structures, loading, structural response, and connection design; preparing drawings and visualizations; collaborating with related engineering design teams; evaluating structural materials and suppliers; identifying and resolving design integration issues; determining and establishing design specifications and safety standards.
  • Verify and support construction by performing compliance inspections and tests; resolving construction problems related to structural design; coordinating and conferring with construction and production contractors.
  • Document structural design and maintenance by recording design features and maintenance requirements, and warnings; detailing safety requirements.
  • Maintain engineering design team accomplishments by coordinating actions; obtaining expert input; reviewing open issues and action items; contributing information and structural engineering analysis to team meetings and reports; guiding structural engineering technicians.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing structural engineering data and trends.
  • Direct contractors and testing companies during investigative test phases.
  • Determine appropriate solutions within budgetary constraints.
  • Develop comprehensive plans, details, and specifications for bidding.
  • Oversee bidding process (both public and private).
  • Construction administration, including field/site visits and problem-solving during construction.
  • Project Manager responsibilities include monthly billing review, approval/disapproval of vendor invoices, budget, schedule, resource, and job cost monitoring.
  • Work in conjunction with other Project Managers and staff to assist with unique structural-related issues.
  • Oversee and direct production by working with the administrative and drafting staff.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

Qualifications

A minimum BS in Civil/Structural Engineering and professional registration are required. An MS is preferred. Experienced candidates should have knowledge of AutoCAD and computer-aided analysis/design of structures, with BIM software knowledge being a plus. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

The ideal candidate should have skills in Site Development, Quality Engineering, Drafting Tools, Analytical Tools, Cost Estimating, Conceptual Skills, General Math Skills, Verbal Communication, Presentation Skills, and Problem Solving.

MA Licensure is preferred but not required.

Salary Information

Our estimated annual salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
