Job Summary:

As a Medical Assistant at Carilion Clinic, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare team. Your technical clinical skills and clerical expertise will enable you to work closely with licensed staff, physicians, and mid-level practitioners to deliver exceptional patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect patient assessment data, including vital signs, chief complaint/symptoms, and current medications, for assessment by licensed staff.
• Prepare patients for provider evaluations by obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, and assisting during exams and procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, restock supplies, and sterilize reusable equipment as needed.
• Assist with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, preparing blood samples for reference lab, and labeling specimens with accurate patient ID.
• Document patient information in the medical record, including treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, and patient concerns.

Requirements:

• Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or comparable military training and experience preferred.
• One year of experience in a physician office setting preferred.
• Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association, such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, or National Healthcare Association.
• AHA BLS-HCP Certification required.
