Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff responsible for financial service operations, including accounts payable, cash disbursements, and general accounting.
  • Monitor working capital accounts and forecast the Garden's cash flow position to ensure sufficient funds for operational and capital investment requirements.
  • Maintain banking relationships and oversee all bank reconciliations.
  • Responsible for general ledger maintenance and analysis, working closely with the Controller and Budget team to prepare financial analyses, forecasts, and reconciliations.
  • Lead month-end close and support the Controller in managing deadlines and deliverables associated with year-end financial closings and financial statement preparation.
  • Support all departments in recording and posting financial transactions, including expense and revenue.
  • Responsible for preparing and filing monthly and quarterly sales tax, as well as preparing and distributing Form 1099-NEC and Form 1098-T.
  • Serve as a backup for the Controller.
  • Collaborate with senior management staff on special projects and support executive management in all areas of financial control and decision-making.
  • Participate in the Garden's ERP Steering Committee, providing input and recommendations on the Garden's financial software and addressing issues and implementing improvements in the Enterprise Resource System (ERP).
  • Review and document accounting designs, policies, and workflows for efficiency and knowledge transfer, in collaboration with the Controller.
  • Partner with the CFO and Controller on documentation and adherence to financial risk management procedures and related compliance.
Qualifications

Related qualifications include a Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting and CPA; five years of supervisory-level accounting experience within a non-profit environment; strong managerial and collaboration skills; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; a strong financial systems background with experience in process redesign and quality improvement; proficiency in managing complex information systems; excellent analytical, financial management, and reporting skills; and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

Work Environment

The Associate Controller will work with administrative staff in the Budget and Finance office on a daily basis. This role requires extended time periods in front of a computer and working under low to moderate sounds.
