Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Technician to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct initial intake interviews with patients and families to assess their needs and develop individualized care plans.
- Assist in the evaluation and assessment of patients' conditions and psychological functioning, observing and interacting with patients to determine symptoms and changes in behavior.
- Participate in therapeutic milieu activities and stimulate patients to participate in scheduled daily activities, such as community meetings and groups.
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures, accompanying patients for scheduled off-unit and off-site activities.
- Monitor patients for special risks, such as falls, elopement, and suicide attempts, and report observations to responsible nurses.
- Document patient information accurately and completely, following unit and division standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a mental health setting or patient care environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.
