Fiber Optic Technician

The Fiber Technician is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and splicing fiber optic cables. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail.

• Install and terminate fiber optic cables, including simplex and duplex jumper cords
• Perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems using OTDR and PMLS
• Splice fiber optic cables using mechanical and fusion splicing techniques
• Build and maintain fiber optic closets, including installing backboards, cross-connects, and patch panels
• Install and terminate fiber optic connectors, including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP
• Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards
• Complete all necessary paperwork, including timesheets, material transfers, and work orders

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proficiency in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems
• Experience with testing and troubleshooting MMF and SMF systems
• Ability to meet IES driving standards policy
• 3-5 years of experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance
• Industry certifications, such as Corning/FOA
• Data center installation experience
• Mechanical and fusion splicing experience
• OSP/confined space entry experience

The Fiber Technician will work in a fast-paced environment, often at heights, off of ladders, and in confined spaces. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds is required. Regular attendance is mandatory.
