We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the position of Underground Facility Locator.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this role is to accurately identify, map, and mark underground utility lines using advanced detection tools and utility schematics. This position involves collaborating with contractors and assessing sites for necessary repairs or modifications in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize appropriate locating equipment to mark underground utility systems for excavation projects.
- Act as a key resource for the internal locating team and oversee locating activities in designated areas.
- Provide training and support to both internal and external personnel during various locating processes.
- Mentor junior Line Locators in advanced locating techniques.
- Serve as a liaison with contractors, municipalities, and other utility companies on relevant projects.
- Evaluate excavation sites to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Collaborate with Operations to allocate resources effectively for safety assurance.
- Offer technical guidance for the implementation of Summit Utilities' Damage Prevention Program.
- Represent the company in damage prevention initiatives.
- Conduct proactive reviews of facilities to identify areas needing attention.
- Work with excavation teams to expose and determine the precise locations of utility lines.
- Travel to excavation sites while ensuring the safety of equipment and supplies.
- Foster relationships and educate contractors on safe excavation practices.
- Report any damage or potential risks to the distribution system to supervisors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of three years of experience in field operations is necessary.
- Valid Driver's License is mandatory.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions is essential.
- Must be capable of obtaining necessary certifications for service restoration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in utility locating.
- Experience with gas distribution systems.
- Proficient in the safe operation of relevant tools and equipment.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and maps.
- Familiarity with construction practices.
- Proficient in using software applications such as Word and Excel.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to learn and utilize computer systems and mobile data effectively.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to listen and clarify information as needed.
