Job Summary

As a Licensed Practical Nurse II at the University of Illinois, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care as delegated by and under the direction of a physician or registered nurse. You will be responsible for implementing orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advance practice nurses, as well as performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in patient assessment by observing, collecting, recording, and reporting patient data/information.
• Contribute to a plan of nursing care with the registered nurse based on ongoing observations of the patient and input from the patient's family.
• Implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advance practice nurses as delegated by the RN and/or physician.
• Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patient's changing conditions and needs.
• Engage and obtain information from patient and/or family to support an appropriate patient educational plan.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
• Six months of nursing experience in a healthcare facility.
• Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
• Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and healthcare providers.
• Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
