Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Helper II to join our team at the University of Utah. This role will assist in maintaining and repairing equipment, tools, and facilities to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist shop personnel and faculty with projects related to shop equipment to support the college's curriculum and mission.
  2. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and tools in the shop.
  3. Follow supervisor's instructions to ensure the shop functions appropriately while providing students with shop-related education.
  4. Conduct routine checks on machinery to determine maintenance required for proper operation.
  5. Train and operate several different types of shop-related equipment, including a CNC Machine and Laser Cutter.
  6. Assist in the transportation of tools and equipment as needed.
  7. Support the shop with routine and semesterly cleaning duties and responsibilities to maintain a clean and safe workshop.
  8. Employees may unlock/open the building in the morning and lockdown/close the shop in the evening.
  9. Employee may need to work weekends and other hours outside of regular operating hours (8:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m.).
Requirements

Two years of relevant work experience in the applicable trades areas; a basic understanding of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating, air conditioning, and welding; and the ability to move heavy objects required. A valid Utah Driver's license; positive oral and written communications skills along with excellent customer service skills; and the ability to read and work from wiring diagrams, appliance handbooks, blueprints, and drawings also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Training at a technical college in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, diesel engine repair, welding, or refrigeration and air conditioning or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) is preferred.
