We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Cardiac Medical Unit team at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities- Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
- Assess patient environment for any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards.
- Assess patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
- Assess patient condition for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. Reports any indications of abuse or neglect to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency.
- Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
- Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitors patient for therapeutic response. Notifies provider and intervenes as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
- Teach patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
- Teach patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.
- Manage a care team, providing oversight and delegation to members as appropriate.
- Manage evidence-based practices and continuous process improvement initiatives to meet and exceed quality measures and enhance the exceptional care provided to patients.
- Manage the quality of care by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery.
- Manage the continuation of care by serving as the interface between healthcare providers and community support systems who coordinate ongoing care needs for specialized patient groups.
- Apply principles of cardiac and medical-surgical nursing in providing patient care.
- Maintain a knowledge of medications, procedures, and equipment commonly used in the care of cardiac and medical-surgical patients.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient teaching and education related to specific surgical procedures or adaptations in health status resulting from treatment.
- Serve as an example of professional nursing practice and promotes pride in nursing for the organization, the community, and the health care industry.
- Demonstrate caring and empathy in all interactions and advocates for patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions.
- Engage in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, bedside shift report, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
- Articulates a clear understanding of how to integrate patient experience behaviors into quality, safety, and nursing practice.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications, and escalates care concerns appropriately.
- Participate as an engaged, active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrates behaviors consistent with established policies/procedures.
- Shares new knowledge with peers and mentors those with less experience.
- Participate in professional practice activities and advocates for shared governance functions.
- Seek opportunities to impact the growth of the organization by promoting excellence in patient experience and providing high quality care to the patients served.
- Encourage physician engagement by nurturing a positive, professional work environment.
- Function as a good steward of financial resources by effectively managing supplies, equipment, length of stay, and throughput.
- Assume personal accountability for work time.

- Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma Required
- Bachelor's degree in nursing Preferred
- < 1 year applicable experience Required
- Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.

- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
