PenFed is seeking a (Hybrid) Virtual Mortgage Lending Specialist at our service centers. The primary objective of this role is to serve as a reliable consultant for our members, guiding them in selecting the most suitable mortgage or home equity loan tailored to their specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities

- Act as a reliable consultant for PenFed members and potential members regarding home purchase and refinancing options.
- Thoroughly explain the mortgage process and set realistic expectations for the experience.
- Promptly respond to all inquiries and lead opportunities.
- Serve as a liaison to ensure timely closings.
- Maintain communication with members throughout the processing period to ensure their needs are met with urgency and professionalism.
- Identify potential issues that may hinder the ability to meet established conditions and timelines.
- Assist members in completing applications over the phone, providing electronic documentation, and encouraging the use of e-consent for efficient loan processing.
- Follow up on all pre-approvals to address questions and provide guidance.
- Engage with realtors to facilitate member assistance and provide direct contact information.
- Collaborate proactively with processors to secure credit approvals within established timelines.
- Ensure compliance with quality measures for applications.
- Offer sound mortgage advice regarding various loan products, pricing, and guidelines.
- Utilize assigned programs and technology to maintain regulatory documentation standards.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of lending policies and procedures for Agency, Non-agency, VA, and Home Equity.
Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. A high school diploma and relevant experience that equips the individual with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform essential job functions are required. An Associate's Degree is preferred.
Preferred qualifications include:
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential mortgage lending with a focus on business generation.
- A demonstrated understanding of mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.
- Knowledge of agency, non-agency, FHA, VA, and home equity lending guidelines.
- Familiarity with Federal Regulations governing Real Estate Lending.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Licenses and Certifications
An active NMLS license is required.
Work Environment
This role typically involves working in an office environment with moderate noise levels. Most positions require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
