Position Overview

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is looking for a dedicated Planning Engineer to enhance their Generation Integration team. This role involves overseeing technical evaluations concerning the integration of new generation, transmission, and load facilities into the New York State transmission network. The Planning Engineer will also work closely with various departments to compile reports, address inquiries, and assist in the creation of essential documentation.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assess proposed project designs and facilities for interconnection
  • Develop foundational cases for interconnection analyses
  • Facilitate technical evaluations for interconnection assessments
  • Analyze system upgrade needs and formulate cost projections
  • Draft interconnection study reports and necessary documentation
  • Lead discussions in project study meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory; a Master's degree is advantageous
  • At least two years of experience in power system planning or design is essential
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Power Flow, Transfer Capability Analysis, Stability, and Short Circuit is required
  • Understanding of reliability standards and practices is crucial

Additional Skills:

  • Capability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents
  • Intermediate proficiency in the Windows operating system and MS Office suite
  • Strong grasp of advanced mathematical concepts
  • Ability to employ logical and scientific reasoning in problem-solving

Work Environment:

The role necessitates verbal communication, auditory skills, and physical mobility, including standing, walking, sitting, and manual dexterity. Occasional lifting and travel may be involved. Work hours may include evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Salary Range: $74,000—$123,600 USD
