Are you a compassionate and skilled veterinarian looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of animals in need? We are seeking a Veterinarian Medical Supervisor to join our team at the ASPCA's Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment (CARE) in New York City.
About the Role:The Veterinarian Medical Supervisor will be responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate veterinary care to a wide range of cruelty, neglect, and at-risk animals. This includes performing medical intakes, exams, diagnostic tests, and medical treatments, as well as supervising licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs) and other medical staff.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage medical cases, ensuring high-quality individualized care and maintaining overall population medicine using shelter best practices.
- Collaborate with medical, behavior, and operations leaders to review cases and make weekly pathway planning decisions, including humane euthanasia decisions.
- Perform humane euthanasia for animals deemed unsuitable for placement, working closely with the behavior and medical teams.
- Provide medical support for large-scale NYPD and CE cases, including exams, diagnostic tests, and medical treatments.
- Develop skilled and efficient diagnosis and treatment plans following ARC/CARE/AAH medical parameters and guidelines.
- Oversee and maintain the CARE animal census, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
- Lead the Daily CARE rounds meeting and monthly CARE LVT meeting, developing and disseminating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring their implementation.
- Model a standard of continued commitment to improve and expand upon all aspects of CARE, including medical, behavior, housing, safety, and animal flow.
- Practice and espouse positive, people-centric management approaches, providing clear direction and encouraging opportunities for development.
- Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
- 3+ years of experience in a GP, specialty, and/or shelter setting, with a NY State veterinary license.
- Fear Free Shelter certification within 6 months of hire date.
- Previous experience in shelters preferred but not required.
- A competitive salary range of $169,500-$179,500, depending on experience.
- A signing bonus.
