The Emergency Department Technician plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. As a key member of the patient care team, this individual will assist registered nurses with delegated tasks, ensuring seamless care delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Monitor patient conditions, recognize changes, and report findings to registered nurses.
- Escort stable patients to other departments as required.
- Clean, procure, and return equipment and supplies.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining stock items.
- Perform special procedures, including venipuncture, splinting, and non-sterile dressing changes.
- Set up for Emergency Department procedures and assist registered nurses as directed.
- Operate patient monitoring equipment, record rhythm strips, and run 12-lead EKGs.
- Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens, and insert saline locks under the direction of registered nurses.
- Demonstrate competence in patient care responsibilities and adapt methods to meet unique patient needs.
- Perform clerical and non-nursing duties, including serving as a receptionist and maintaining patient records.
- As a Patient Registrar, greet patients, document demographic information, and compile scheduled reports.
- Demonstrate adherence to CHRISTUS Health's CORE values.
- A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- 1-2 years of patient care experience in an acute care hospital or military medic setting, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience.
- Current BLS certification is required.
- EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
