Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Faculty member to teach Italian language courses within the School of World Studies. This is a part-time, non-benefited faculty position, with adjunct contracts typically spanning one semester.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct students in Italian language classes, utilizing a variety of teaching methods to engage learners and promote language proficiency.
  • Develop and implement course materials, assessments, and grading rubrics, ensuring alignment with departmental guidelines and standards.
  • Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner, providing constructive feedback to students.
  • Respond to student inquiries and concerns within 24 hours, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Submit final grades according to College/Department policy, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Course Information

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching ITAL 201, Intermediate Italian I, a 3-credit course with 3 lecture hours. Prerequisites include ITAL 102 or a satisfactory score on the VCU Language Placement Test within the one-year period preceding the course. The course will be conducted in Italian, with a focus on developing intermediate-level cultural competence and proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through authentic materials.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Italian or a related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level, with a proven track record of effective instruction and student engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize modern instructional technology, including online platforms and multimedia resources.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in online formats, with a focus on creating inclusive and interactive learning environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, with a focus on promoting equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Italian or a related discipline.
