Position Overview: This announcement is intended to recruit for various Architect roles within the Hawaii State Department of Education. The authorized level for these positions is Architect V, with applications accepted down to Architect I based on recruitment needs.
Salary Information: New external candidates will be placed at the initial step of the salary range. However, higher placement may be considered based on unique qualifications, critical needs of the role, and available funding. Salaries for the Architect positions are as follows:
- Architect I, SR-18: $4, $5,282.00 per month
- Architect II, SR-20: $4, $5,713.00 per month
- Architect III, SR-22: $5, $6,177.00 per month
- Architect IV, SR-24: $5, $6,949.00 per month
- Architect V, SR-26: $6, $7,517.00 per month
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and collaborate with junior architects and draftsmen in the creation of designs, plans, specifications, and estimates for significant and intricate structures, including educational and governmental facilities.
- Delegate tasks to team members, monitor progress, and provide technical guidance to resolve complex issues.
- Evaluate completed work for architectural integrity, technical soundness, and alignment with departmental goals.
- Inspect construction work to ensure adherence to designs and contractual agreements.
- Consult with engineers on structural, electrical, and mechanical plans.
- Recommend modifications in materials and construction methods to meet architectural and engineering requirements.
- May suggest suitable building sites and types for intended uses.
Educational Requirements: A degree in architecture or architectural engineering from an accredited institution is required. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of architectural principles.
Experience Requirements: Applicants must possess progressively responsible experience as outlined below:
- Architect I: 4 years of architectural experience
- Architect II: 4 years of architectural experience
- Architect III: 4 years of architectural experience
- Architect IV: 4 years of architectural experience
- Architect V: 4 years of architectural experience (supervisory potential may be considered)
Quality of Experience: The applicant's record must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position effectively. For Architect V, at least one year of experience must be at the Architect IV level.
Licensing and Testing: For Architect IV and higher, a Hawaii State Certificate of Registration as a professional architect is required. Candidates may be required to pass a written test if they do not possess a degree in architecture.
Application Requirements: Applicants must meet all qualifications at the time of application. Experience is calculated based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks, and part-time experience is pro-rated.
Temporary Positions: Opportunities may be extended based on funding and departmental needs, with potential pathways to permanent employment.
