Position OverviewEmployment Type: Full-Time Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift Role Summary:

The 7SW Unit: This is a 33-bed adult inpatient surgical facility situated on the 7th floor, serving a diverse patient demographic including Trauma, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Gynecology, and Medicine. The unit is semi-private, and RNs collaborate with Patient Care Technicians (PCTs). A Charge RN is designated for both shifts to address immediate unit requirements and serve as a direct resource.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Registered Nurse, you will engage in acute nursing care and monitoring practices, which encompass:
  • Regular vital sign assessments
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring
  • Oxygen and glucose monitoring
  • Wound care management

The most prevalent diagnoses and surgical interventions include traumatic brain injuries, polytraumas, cholecystectomies, prostatectomies, joint replacements, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), urinary diversions, bowel resections, and ostomies. Standard practices involve hourly patient rounding and bedside shift reporting to ensure safety and comfort. Additionally, WIND (What is needed for discharge) rounds are conducted daily to facilitate interdisciplinary discharge planning.

Qualifications:

  • A Diploma from an accredited nursing school/college is required - BSN or ADN preferred
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association accredited) required prior to employment
  • Illinois Nursing License required prior to employment
  • One year of nursing experience preferred, but new graduates are welcome
