ROLE SUMMARY
The Staff Pharmacist II at North Mississippi Health Services is a diverse role centered on clinical care, education, operational management, research, and adherence to regulatory standards. This position entails the coordination of patient care across various healthcare environments, provision of medication education, engagement in research activities, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Clinical Duties:
* Collaborates in the coordination and delivery of patient care across the healthcare continuum alongside other professionals.
* Acts as a resource for pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals in the assigned area.
* Aids in the design and implementation of clinical pharmacy services.
* Participates in the training and development of pharmacy personnel.
* Monitors and manages pharmacotherapy in the designated patient demographic.
* Develops comprehensive care plans that incorporate medications, devices, and delivery methods.
Educational Responsibilities:
* Provides education on pharmacotherapy.
* Supports programs that address the needs of the pharmacy and healthcare professionals.
* Establishes objectives and facilitates training for students and residents.
* Offers medication use education to patients, families, and the community.
* Engages in educational initiatives focused on disease prevention and wellness promotion.
* Participates in departmental performance improvement efforts.
* Maintains required continuing education (CE) hours.
Operational Functions:
* Assists in the prevention, identification, and resolution of medication misuse.
* Possesses knowledge of pharmacy and medical claims systems.
* Understands retail and outpatient hospital operations.
* Familiar with billing and reimbursement processes (ICD-9/HCPC/CPT Coding, OPPS reimbursement, Medicare, etc.).
* Verifies patient health insurance benefits and precertifications for third-party payers.
Financial and Budgetary Responsibilities:
* Evaluates and assesses drug therapy treatment plans and delivery in designated practice areas.
* Aids in ensuring compliance with departmental budgetary constraints.
* Participates in the ongoing revision of the system-wide formulary.
Research and Compliance:
* Coordinates, conducts, and engages in pharmacological research and development in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
* Ensures departmental adherence to accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety standards.
* Complies with NMHS/NMMC policies and procedures.
Education:
**Required:**
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
**Preferred:**
* Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD).
Licenses and Certifications:
**Required:**
* Licensed as a Pharmacist by the State Board of Pharmacy based on facility location upon hire.
Experience:
**Required:**
* 4-6 years of experience in a comparable health system pharmacy.
* Minimum of 3 years in clinical practice or operational experience.
* Previous patient care experience with demonstrated proficiency in clinical areas.
Skills and Abilities:
