Job Title: Part-Time CDL A Driver

Join Scholastic Book Fairs as a Part-Time CDL A Driver and play a vital role in delivering and picking up fairs in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Part-Time CDL A Driver to join our team. As a Part-Time CDL A Driver, you will be responsible for delivering and picking up fairs from branch facilities to hub locations, ensuring timely and safe transportation of goods.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work with supervisors to deliver and pick up fairs in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  2. Inspect and prepare fifth wheels before coupling.
  3. Utilize Semi Tractors with single or tandem axles, manual or automatic transmissions, combined with 48' or 53' trailers to line haul fairs from branch facilities to hub locations.
  4. Deliver fairs using Semi Tractors with single or tandem axles, manual or automatic transmissions, combined with pup trailers.
  5. Couple and uncouple trailers safely and in a timely manner, connecting and disconnecting air and brake lines, and operating landing gear.
  6. Work closely with supervisors to ensure customer service standards are maintained.
  7. Load and unload trucks with or without assistance from mechanical devices.
  8. Effectively communicate routing problems to supervisors to enable changes to be communicated to the routing team.
  9. Deliver and pick up product from schools as scheduled, in a courteous and professional manner.
  10. Secure and transport products to enable customers to receive damage-free fairs.
  11. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of motor vehicles, notifying supervisors of any defects or problems.
  12. Complete and maintain accurate and legible records, including DOT Logs, trip sheets, fuel tickets, road expenses, and other paperwork as required.
  13. Adhere to all company, local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
  14. Call regional or branch offices immediately upon the occurrence of any of the following: accidents or damage to persons or property, problems with school deliveries or pickups, or mechanical failures of equipment.
  15. Assist in completing warehouse tasks as required by supervisors.
  16. Overnight routes as necessary.
  17. Maintain professional appearance, including well-groomed hair, clean uniforms, and hygienic habits.
  18. Attend monthly driver meetings, completing all continuous training materials as required.
  19. Complete annual Certificate of Violation Process timely, accurately, and honestly.
  20. Utilize proper techniques for lifting, packing, and handling heavy objects, climbing ladders, and pushing/pulling display cases.
  21. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  22. Maintain trucks per company standards.
  23. Regular attendance in accordance with schedules.
  24. Comply with drug and alcohol-free policy.
Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
  2. Verifiable commercial driving experience of at least one year required.
  3. Minimum of twenty-one years of age.
  4. Possess valid CDL A license with air brake endorsement.
  5. CDL A must be validated through recertification with an approved driving school.
  6. Must pass a drug screen/alcohol screen, Motor Vehicle Record review, criminal background review, and a DOT physical examination indicating physical essential functions of the job can be performed as required.
  7. Must be able to drive vehicles weighing in excess of 26,001 GVW and trailers in excess of 10,000 lbs. with a total combined GVW up to 80,000 lbs.
  8. Ability to lift/carry up to 70 lbs. and push, pull, lift, and handle metal/plastic cases weighing more than 350lbs on a regular and repetitive basis.
  9. Customer service-oriented.
  10. Must be able to read road maps and follow directions.
  11. Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  12. Strong team player and ability to get along with coworkers.
  13. Good verbal/written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to read.
