Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Radiation Safety Protocols: Develop, improve, and implement radiation safety protocols, policies, and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide Radiation Safety Training: Provide radiation safety training to laboratory staff and ensure that all personnel are properly trained in radiation safety.
  • Conduct Regular Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with radiation safety standards.
  • Monitor Radiation Exposure Levels: Monitor radiation exposure levels and implement measures to minimize occupational exposure.
  • Coordinate with Radiation Safety Officer: Coordinate work with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to ensure seamless execution of radiation safety protocols.
  • Investigate Incidents and Accidents: Investigate incidents and accidents involving radiation exposure and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Stay Current on Developments: Stay current on developments in radiation safety regulations and best practices and ensure that laboratory procedures are updated accordingly.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Graduate Degree: Bachelor's or graduate level degree in health physics, physical science, engineering, or biological sciences.
  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in health physics in a radiological facility (particle accelerators, radiochemistry, nuclear industry, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Radiation Safety Regulations: Knowledge of federal, state, and local radiation safety regulations.
  • Risk Assessment/Management Experience: Risk assessment/management experience.
  • Leadership Ability: Leadership ability.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication, meeting, and presentation skills.
Preferred Requirements
  • Current Certifications: Current certifications in Health Physics (CHP) from ABHP (American Board of Health Physics).
