Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room, ensuring the highest standard of sterile technique and patient care during surgical procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and equipment, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and anticipate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons during procedures, anticipating their needs.
  • Measure and pass medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions.
  • Hold retractors or instruments as directed by surgeons.
  • Sponge or suction the operative site.
  • Apply electrocautery to clamps or forceps on bleeders.
  • Cut suture material as directed by surgeons.
  • Coordinate camera or robotic arms/instruments during endoscopic surgery.
  • Maintain highest standard of sterile technique.
  • Perform additional counts as necessary.
  • Prepare sterile dressings and/or immobilization devices.
  • Pass off specimen(s) as appropriate.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assist in prepping the OR for the next patient.
  • Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Eligibility to obtain certification through an accredited surgical technology program or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Surgical Technology practitioner within the past 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of hospital experience.
  • Certificate Program or Associate Degree in Surgical Technology.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
