HDR Engineering is seeking a Lead Substation Engineering Manager to join our expanding and nationally recognized team of Power Delivery experts. The primary responsibilities of the Lead Substation Engineering Manager include supervising, guiding, and developing a team of substation project managers, overseeing the execution of a portfolio of power delivery services, and delivering exceptional services to clients in the region. The ideal candidate will possess extensive technical knowledge and experience in the design and construction of high voltage electrical switchyards and substation projects up to 500kV. This role requires a seasoned leader with a background in substation design engineering, along with a blend of leadership, project management, and technical management experience.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership
  • Oversee operational management and provide direct supervision to a team of substation project managers; ensure quality, workload, utilization, team morale, training, and mentorship of team members.
  • Offer leadership and project oversight to guarantee appropriate staffing and effective execution of project work, both internally and externally.
  • Establish a network of relationships with technical peers across various offices to leverage resources for work-sharing opportunities.
  • Manage team workload and utilization to meet operational objectives, maintaining accurate forecasting.
  • Collaborate with local and regional operations and national leadership to enhance capabilities through recruitment and training.
Project Management
  • Develop and implement project execution plans focusing on the technical aspects of projects.
  • Delegate project tasks and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Support the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget management, including proposal development, work breakdown structure creation, progress assessment, risk mitigation, change management, and schedule oversight.
  • Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables in accordance with HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements to ensure top-quality outcomes for clients.
  • Lead multiple concurrent projects, utilizing teams across different geographic locations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 10 years of engineering experience, including project management.
  • 4 years of experience in substation projects.
  • 2 years of consulting experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • A commitment to actively participate in our employee-owned culture.
  • Local candidates preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous team management experience.
  • Prior consulting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
  • PMP certification.
