Physiatrist - Rehabilitation Specialist

This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers reimbursement for student loan payments. Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will routinely conduct inpatient and outpatient evaluations focused on musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, establish diagnoses, and initiate treatment plans aimed at restoring functionality. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals is essential to create a comprehensive rehabilitation strategy. Patient demographics requiring extensive rehabilitation services include those with conditions such as electromyography, amputations, spinal cord injuries, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders, and chronic severe pain syndromes.
Responsibilities include participation in various clinical areas as assigned, including EMG/TBI/Polytrauma/Rehabilitation Injections/Ultrasound-based Rehabilitation care/Amputee/Seating/Power Mobility/SCI/Inpatient Consults/CLC Consults and general rehabilitation clinics. The role involves providing clinical oversight for PM&R therapy sections as necessary, under the guidance of the Chief of the PM&R Service, to ensure a continuum of rehabilitation services.
Additional duties encompass prescribing, coordinating, and monitoring rehabilitation activities in collaboration with other PM&R Service providers and related therapy professionals, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Blind Rehabilitation, Social Work, Psychology, Neuro-Psychology, Compensated Work Therapy, and Rehabilitation Nursing Care.
Participation in administrative and quality improvement initiatives is also expected, assisting in policy development and adherence to local and national standards.
Compensation and Benefits
The VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: Generous paid time off totaling 50-55 days per year, which includes 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid Federal holidays, along with potential additional paid time for Continuing Medical Education (CME).
Retirement: Traditional federal pension with a five-year vesting period and a federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by the VA.
Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance options, many of which can be carried into retirement.
Licensure: A full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. State or territory is required.
CME: Possible reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year for continuing medical education (must be full-time with board certification).
Malpractice Coverage: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (subject to change based on agency needs).
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional criteria outlined in the job announcement.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
- Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
