Position: Signal Technician
Location: Mobile – Southeast Region

Role Summary: The Signal Technician is accountable for executing daily installations, labor, testing, inspections, and various operations related to signal construction, repair, and maintenance. This role emphasizes safety, effective communication, and teamwork to accomplish tasks efficiently. The technician will be part of a mobile team that travels to various work sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation and cleaning of construction or work sites.
- Support the installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of train control systems and grade crossing warning devices at railroad signal projects.
- Operate mini-excavators, backhoes, and other machinery as required.
- Interpret work orders, instructions, blueprints, and complete tasks related to signal maintenance and construction.
- Load and unload materials, machinery, and tools as necessary.
- Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toe boots, safety glasses, reflective apparel, hearing protection, and gloves.
- Troubleshoot and resolve common issues encountered in railroad signal maintenance and installation practices.
- Draft simple correspondence and reports as needed.
- Effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group settings to clients, customers, and colleagues.
- Perform basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Adhere to all company, state, and federal regulations and instructions.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Preferred experience in electrical engineering or electronics.
- Experience operating machinery such as backhoes and mini-excavators is preferred.
- CDL Class A is preferred.
- Military experience is a plus.
- Experience is preferred but not mandatory.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position regularly exposes the employee to outdoor weather conditions and may require working nights, weekends, and holidays. The employee may encounter moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with potential exposure to live tracks/trains and high voltage. The employee may face all weather conditions.
