Job Overview

Position Title: Grounds Maintenance Technician

Department: Parks and Recreation

Supervisor: Parks Maintenance Crew Leaders; and Parks Operations Manager

Status: Seasonal, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Compensation: $16.50 per hour, depending on experience

Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Work Schedule: Up to 40 hours per week, schedule determined by supervisor

Season: April 1st - November 30th (maximum duration of 6 months from hire date)


Position Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for a range of entry-level tasks associated with the upkeep, enhancement, installation, repair, and construction of park facilities, cemetery grounds, trails, buildings, splash pads, and general landscapes. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Parks Operations Manager, Parks Maintenance Crew Leaders, or designated Park Maintenance Staff.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age or older
  • Possession of a valid Utah Class D Driver's License is preferred
  • Off-Highway Vehicle Certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire)
  • One (1) year of experience in a related field is preferred but not mandatory

Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with maintenance equipment such as mowers, aerators, trimmers, etc.; knowledge of landscape and irrigation system repair and troubleshooting; understanding of safety protocols related to equipment operation; strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions effectively.
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communication.
  • Capability to build effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
  • Ability to regularly lift weights ranging from 50 to 75 pounds.

Occasionally, the employee works near moving mechanical parts in high or precarious locations and may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles.
