Job Summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients and processing them for laboratory testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples from patients using aseptic techniques and proper phlebotomy procedures.
  • Label and process blood samples accurately and efficiently.
  • Deliver blood samples to the laboratory for testing and analysis.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring and other laboratory tests as assigned.
  • Assure accurate documentation of laboratory results and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from physicians and nurses regarding laboratory testing.
  • Perform clerical duties, including answering phones, releasing lab orders, and entering orders into the laboratory information system.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy certification (PBT) or eligibility for certification within 90 days.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Good communication, analytical, and mathematical skills.

Working Conditions

The Phlebotomy Specialist will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment and will be required to stand for long periods, use hands to handle equipment and samples, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
