Position Overview:
The Culinary Specialist is responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking a variety of dishes, including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts within a bustling diner environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of food preparation and serving areas to uphold safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
- Monitor and adjust cooking temperatures for ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters to ensure food is stored and cooked at the appropriate temperatures.
- Ensure the quality and freshness of food ingredients by regularly checking stock and rotating items as necessary.
- Season and cook dishes according to established recipes or based on personal expertise and experience.
- Utilize various cooking methods, including baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming, to prepare meats, fish, vegetables, and other menu items.
- Conduct taste tests and observe food to confirm proper cooking levels.
- Prepare fruits and vegetables by washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding as needed for meal preparation.
- Carve and trim meats for both hot and cold service.
- Collaborate with supervisory staff to plan menus, considering factors such as cost efficiency and special event requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: A few months to one year of relevant experience
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
