Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Metallurgical Engineer will collaborate closely with the Technical Director and skilled technicians, engaging in a diverse array of technical project oversight, laboratory evaluations, and client interactions. The role encompasses:

  • Gathering technical data from clients, formulating work scopes, and delivering cost assessments.
  • Overseeing laboratory operations, including digital imaging, sample preparation, metallographic specimen crafting, microscopy, hardness assessments, chemical evaluations, and mechanical testing.
  • Interpreting metallurgical data at a high level, particularly in the analysis of microstructures and fractography.
  • Creating comprehensive reports for clients based on laboratory findings and technical insights.
  • Offering technical mentorship to junior engineering personnel, including report reviews.
  • Providing expert witness testimony in legal settings, if necessary.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess:

  • A degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in metallurgical failure analysis and forensic engineering.
  • Practical experience with standard metallurgical laboratory tools and instruments, such as stereoscopes, optical metallographs, scanning electron microscopes, and various hardness testers.
  • Mechanical proficiency and experience in specifying and analyzing laboratory mechanical tests, including tensile, compression, Charpy impact, and bend tests.
  • Familiarity with inorganic chemical analysis methods, including optical emission spectroscopy (OES), wavelength x-ray fluorescence (WXRF), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS).
  • Exceptional technical writing and verbal communication skills.
