Key Responsibilities

What You Will Do:
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of professional fee encounters for inpatient, outpatient, and clinic-based medical records, utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers to ensure accurate coding assignments.
  • Analyze all HCPCS and CPT codes affecting RVU assignments.
  • Provide educational support to coders through the auditing process.
  • Prepare preliminary findings for review by relevant stakeholders.
  • Address coding recommendation disputes with the appropriate management personnel.
  • Compile final reports for coding audits and assist in resolving audit findings.
  • Deliver coder education via email and/or conference calls, utilizing audit findings and comments.
  • Participate in coding workshops as required.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes impacting coding practices.
  • Manage multiple cases concurrently to ensure efficient departmental workflow and resolution.
  • Exhibit versatility and excellence across a diverse range of coding services.
  • Engage with client facility representatives to discuss audit trends and issues.
  • Develop and implement educational programs for clinical staff to enhance documentation practices.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in executing job responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, management, and healthcare staff regarding clinical and reimbursement matters.
  • Maintain professionalism, efficiency, and a positive demeanor in all interactions.
  • Adhere to the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) code of ethics.
  • Exhibit a strong customer-service orientation, professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Audit external coding staff as necessary and provide reports to management as directed.
  • Engage in high-complexity decision-making and work functions.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, teamwork, and leadership capabilities.

Qualifications

What You Bring:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in coding or auditing.
  • CPC and/or CPMA certification is required.
  • Recent experience in academic or level 1 trauma centers.
  • Proficiency in coding or auditing professional fee encounters across various healthcare facilities.
  • Proven track record of meeting productivity standards.
  • Maintain a 95% accuracy rate in code assignments and a 95% productivity rate.
  • Familiarity with various software tools, including EMR, Encoder, and auditing software.

Compensation: Pay ranges for this role may vary based on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other role requirements. The estimated pay range for this position is $35 - $40 per hour.
