The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing support services to technologists, nurses, and physicians in Imaging Services
  • Coordinating patient flow in the respective imaging departments
  • Setting up exam/procedure rooms before patient arrival, verifying paperwork and physician orders, escorting patients to and from waiting and changing areas, and assisting technologists, nurses, or physicians in performing exams/procedures
  • Processing films and paperwork for completed exams
  • Caring for patients throughout treatment/procedures according to department and hospital standards of care, age-specific sensitivities, and Patients' First guidelines
  • Preparing procedure rooms for patients prior to their arrival in the department and work area, assisting in preparing patients for exams/procedures, and explaining exams and answering basic questions
  • Following directions of technologists/nurses to assist in performing exams/procedures on patients
  • Processing CDs as needed
  • Participating in lifting and escorting patients and maintaining lift equipment competencies, referring to Northwestern Memorial Hospital Safe Patient Handling Policy
  • Helping to coordinate patient care based on departmental imaging protocols, interacting and communicating with clinical and medical staff to coordinate patient flow
  • Reconciling physician orders to correct exam protocol and escalating discrepancies to appropriate clinical staff
  • Preparing all necessary paperwork and information so treatment/procedures may be performed
  • Retrieving physician orders as needed from all order systems, including but not limited to EPIC, Chartview, Powerchart
  • Assisting in clarification of patient demographic information, verifying patient information for accuracy and completeness
  • Monitoring schedule to ensure effective patient flow throughout diagnostic areas, informing coordinators, charge techs, and patients of delays
  • Identifying and obtaining paperwork required to start exams
  • Handling outside films appropriately and obtaining patient films when requested
  • Recognizing and reporting problems to appropriate supervisors

Additional Functions:

  • Using scheduling system, Radnet and PACS proficiently
  • Monitoring stock of supplies, including Radiology Contrast Media, in treatment/procedure rooms to assure their regular availability by timely re-ordering, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment
  • Using designated equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently
  • Maintaining equipment and work area as directed, and where applicable, documenting safety checklists, including contrast warmers, barium refrigerators, etc.
  • Following policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the department
  • Organizing and prioritizing assigned work, and scheduling time to accommodate work demands, turnaround-time, and commitments
  • Providing clerical/technical support as needed and as assigned by Manager

This role may support additional projects, perform administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned. This position is part-time, 64 hours per pay period, rotating, with specific schedules to be determined.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates computer skills
  • CPR Certification (BLS)

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare delivery position
  • Bilingual language skills
