Objective of Your Role:

The primary objective of this position is to prepare meals in compliance with current federal, state, and local regulations, alongside our established policies and procedures. As a Cook, you will be entrusted with the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for executing your assigned tasks effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:
  • Review menus prior to food preparation.
  • Coordinate dietary services with other departments as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all dietary procedures as per established policies.
  • Maintain and file menus according to established guidelines.
  • Process and communicate dietary changes as directed.
  • Regularly record food and equipment temperatures in line with policy.
  • Oversee meal service in the absence of supervisory staff.
  • Participate in committee recommendations as required.
Personnel Management:
  • Engage with dietary staff to identify and rectify service issues.
  • Foster positive working relationships with dietary and facility personnel.
  • Uphold resident rights consistently.
  • Ensure compliance with dietary policies among staff and visitors.
  • Create a warm and inviting atmosphere within the department.
  • Actively contribute as a team member in the dietary department.
  • Delegate responsibilities to qualified staff as necessary.
Dietary Services:
  • Prepare appetizing meals according to planned menus.
  • Cook for therapeutic and modified diets following established portion control.
  • Assist in providing nutritional snacks and nourishments as required.
  • Ensure appropriate equipment is included with resident meal trays.
  • Offer alternative food choices for residents as needed.
Health and Safety:
  • Perform duties in accordance with health regulations and policies.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Conduct scheduled cleaning duties as per established guidelines.
  • Report hazardous conditions to your supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness in food storage areas.
Inventory Management:
  • Implement the FIFO method for food and supply management.
  • Verify orders for accuracy and compliance with health standards.
Working Environment:
  • Work in well-ventilated and adequately lit areas.
  • Engage with residents and staff under various conditions.
  • May be required to work beyond standard hours during emergencies.
Qualifications:

One year of dietary experience in a supervisory role within a healthcare setting is preferred, along with one year of cooking experience.

Essential Skills:
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficient in cooking a variety of foods in large quantities.
  • Effective communication skills with residents and staff.
  • Knowledgeable in dietary practices and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to move throughout the workday.
  • Capable of lifting a minimum of 40 pounds.
