Imaging Equipment Support Specialist
The MetroHealth Foundation is committed to transforming health care by addressing the core aspects of community health and wellness, including access to essential services and resources.

Position Overview:

This role provides essential support services for a diverse array of medical imaging devices and related systems across various departments within the MetroHealth Foundation, focusing on advanced and intricate equipment.

The specialist will troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and validate the functionality of medical imaging apparatus, including but not limited to general radiographic rooms, portable units, mammography, ultrasound, and ancillary equipment.

Collaboration with departmental staff and management is crucial to identify and mitigate operator errors, equipment malfunctions, downtime, and associated costs.

Service activities are performed in a high-pressure environment and often under strict timelines.


Qualifications:

Required:

Candidate must meet one of the following:

  • Associate Degree in Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Completion of a Biomedical Engineering certification program.
  • Equivalent military training in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below.

Candidate must meet one of the following:

  • 1-year experience in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of medical imaging devices.
  • 2 years of verifiable experience as a Biomedical Engineer in a healthcare setting.
  • 4 years of verifiable experience as a Biomedical Engineer for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or as a Field Service Engineer in the medical equipment sector.

Familiarity with all relevant codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines as established by FDA, OSHA, NIOSH, TJC, ODOH, and other accrediting organizations.

Understanding and adherence to personal/patient protection protocols for radiation exposure as outlined in Radiology Safety Policy - ALARA, and potential exposures to ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, nitrous oxide, anesthetic agents, lasers, and ionizing radiation.

Knowledge of all testing equipment likely utilized in the calibration, verification, troubleshooting, and repair of specialized and complex diagnostic and therapeutic devices and systems.

Awareness of applicable local and federal regulations concerning diagnostic and therapeutic devices and systems.

Possess a current, valid Driver's License.

Exhibit strong written, verbal, and effective interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrate strong technical aptitude.

Ability to think independently and work with minimal supervision.

Capacity to perform under stressful and/or challenging conditions.

Willingness to work an on-call rotational schedule, including weekends and non-standard hours.

Flexibility to provide coverage based on operational needs.

Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.


Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology.

Certification from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) or the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC). Experience in multiple specialty areas.


Physical Requirements:
May require sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and ambulating intermittently throughout the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
Ability to see within the normal visual range with or without correction.
Ability to hear within the normal audio range with or without correction.
Finger dexterity to operate office equipment is required.
Ability to lift weights with assistance.
Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.
Ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face, phone, email, and other formats.
Ability to see computer monitors and departmental documents.
