Position Overview
The Senior Technical Accountant will play a crucial role in managing intricate accounting functions, including but not limited to revenue recognition, lease accounting, stock-based compensation, and debt & derivative accounting. This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will collaborate with various teams including Accounting, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and commercial departments.

Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Conducting thorough research and review of the Company's technical accounting requirements, ensuring compliance with both GAAP and statutory standards.
  • Ensuring that all external filings and reports are technically accurate and consistent.
  • Monitoring updates in GAAP and statutory regulations, and communicating these changes to the finance leadership team.
  • Tracking the activities of accounting and airline industry standard-setting bodies such as FASB, SEC, AICPA, DOT, and FAA.
  • Assessing the impact of new accounting pronouncements on the Company's financial statements.
  • Drafting and reviewing accounting white papers and position papers related to technical accounting topics.
  • Coordinating discussions with external auditors regarding complex transactions.
  • Updating corporate accounting policies as necessary.
  • Participating in external reporting to ensure public disclosures are complete and accurate.
  • Consulting with independent auditors on accounting matters and disclosure requirements.
  • Engaging in accounting due diligence and integration activities, including purchase accounting and fair value assessments.
  • Presenting updates on GAAP and statutory requirements to accounting personnel and finance leadership.
  • Assisting with various special projects and supporting other functions within the Finance Department.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with prior experience in a public accounting firm being advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • A proactive attitude with strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • The ability to manage time effectively and complete projects with minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills
Experience in writing or reviewing technical accounting memorandums is highly desirable.
