The Medical-Surgical unit on the 5th Floor is seeking a committed Registered Nurse (RN) to join their collaborative and multi-disciplinary team. This 42-bed unit specializes in perioperative and postoperative care for medical-surgical and orthopedic patients, focusing on ensuring discharge readiness and maintaining patient safety. Equipped with telemetry monitoring capabilities, this unit also provides continuous cardiac observation for adult non-ICU medical-surgical patients. As an RN, your responsibilities will include delivering direct nursing care, monitoring patient health, assessing pain levels, administering medications, and keeping patient records current.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care in alignment with established policies and protocols. Implement and oversee patient care plans.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions as necessary.
  • Evaluate and adjust care plans to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Coordinate care among various healthcare disciplines for optimal patient management.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing protocols.
  • Document and execute physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
  • Identify educational needs of patients and their families, considering cultural and special concerns.
  • Provide relevant teaching and educational materials as needed.
  • Ensure understanding of educational content by validating and documenting patient and family comprehension.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through formal and informal education.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.

Certifications Required:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in a Critical Care area, to be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on specific unit needs.

Work Environment:

  • Requires critical thinking and decisive judgment, with the ability to work independently.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of one year of acute care RN experience in a hospital setting is required.
  • Consideration will be given to licensed military RN experience.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires full body motion, including lifting and handling patients.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids is expected.
