Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and physically capable Laborer - Buildings and Grounds to join our team at the Sanitary District of Decatur. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to maintain the cleanliness and safety of our facilities and grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of our facilities and grounds, including sweeping, shoveling, and power washing.
  • Operate and maintain various equipment, such as chainsaws, string trimmers, and lawn mowers.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including changing filters, belts, and blades.
  • Participate in snow removal and other emergency response efforts.
  • Assist with graffiti removal, painting, and other general maintenance activities.
  • Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.
  • Respond to overtime and emergency calls as needed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Considerable experience in maintenance and construction work.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and CDL class B required.
  • State Commercial-Not-For-Hire Pesticide Operator license required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Working Conditions

The work environment is typical of an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant facility, with wet humid conditions, high precarious places, and exposure to toxic and/or caustic conditions. The noise level is usually loud to very loud.
