Medical Technologist II

Under the supervision of laboratory leadership, a Medical Technologist (MT) is responsible for performing routine high complexity testing of biological specimens. MTs work in a team environment to ensure timely and quality test results. Medical Technologists must maintain required competencies for applicable testing.
Job Responsibilities- Perform all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations, bringing compliance issues to the attention of management.
- Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality per the absence policy.
- Communicate with customers, vendors, and couriers to ensure quality service, providing excellent customer service to all customers.
- Perform routine testing of biological samples and notify appropriate personnel of any identified problems, assisting with processing bio-waste, specimens, and micro-plates.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, ensuring donor, patient, and employee confidentiality, and performing document reviews as assigned.
- Pack and ship supplies and/or specimens.
- Receive and manage incoming supplies and reagents, assisting with lot changes as directed.
- Prepare, label, verify, and perform prequalification of reagents, ensuring supply and reagent levels are at the appropriate levels and notifying appropriate personnel when new supplies are needed.
- Operate equipment and monitor for errors, responding appropriately, and performing routine preventive maintenance on equipment, identifying equipment malfunctions, and notifying appropriate personnel if additional service is needed.
- Resolve routine problems and escalate non-routine issues when appropriate, assisting with problem investigation.
- Participate in performance improvement teams and training programs, as required.
- Maintain the cleanliness of equipment and work areas, adhering to safety guidelines.
- Perform all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.
- MT Levels III and IV: Serve as a resource for corrections and clarification, analyzing, prioritizing, and resolving complex equipment or reagent problems, investigating deviations in testing, quality control, and preventative maintenance, recommending and implementing corrective actions, and assisting with competency documentation, records review, and records management.
- MT Level IVs: Train newer staff, liaise with vendors and clients, provide direct customer service, perform equipment calibration and qualification, identify and repair equipment malfunctions, perform trouble shooting, and notify appropriate personnel if additional service is needed, assist in coordination and performance of evaluations, and assist with performing required competency assessments as directed by laboratory leadership.
- Education: Bachelor's or higher degree in biology, physical science, medical technology, chemistry, clinical laboratory science, or applicable degree and/or applicable credit hours (as defined by licensing requirements) required.
- Must possess High Complexity Testing competencies required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), CLIA, and other applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies required.
- MT Levels III and IV: Must possess at least 1 year of clinical laboratory experience, demonstrated advanced clinical laboratory knowledge and competency, proficiency of complex equipment and reagent maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution, and understanding of, and experience with, proficiency survey sample testing.
- MT Level IVs: Must have previous experience as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Specialist at Creative Testing Solutions, demonstrated equipment calibration and qualification proficiency for all equipment at the assigned location, and advanced clinical laboratory competency expertise that meets regulatory and SOP requirements, assisting with staff competency assessments and training.
- All applicants for a Technologist license must satisfy the requirements for High Complexity Testing under CLIA Amendments.
- State licensure required (or must have a valid temporary state license and obtain full certification within six months).
- California testing requirements where required by law or SOP.
- Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Must be able to maintain donor, patient, and employee confidentiality.
- Must have proficient computer skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and possess strong communication, organization, analytical, and decision-making skills and be able to comprehend and apply clinical laboratory procedures and theory.
- Ability to work in a team environment and participate as an active team member.
- Must be able to understand, follow, and give precise written and verbal instructions, and perform all activities safely.
- Must be able to read and comprehend written procedures and instructions.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts and overtime when necessary.
- 5+ hours per shift: Sitting, Standing Handling. Finger dexterity, Pinching
- 3- 5 hours per shift: Lifting to 40 pounds
