Position Overview

The Global Development Division is dedicated to creating and executing initiatives in fundamental education, vocational training, and higher education, as well as teacher training and capacity building. Within the TESOL Education sector, World Learning is committed to designing and implementing programs globally that enhance the teaching capabilities of English language educators and improve English language proficiency. These initiatives are supported by various governmental and private entities and are delivered through in-person, blended, and online formats.

In alignment with World Learning's mission, the TESOL Education team oversees the New Vermonter Education Program (NVEP), which aims to assist Afghan and other refugees in adapting to their new lives in the U.S. by developing their English communication skills and cultural understanding. Instruction may occur in person or through virtual platforms. Collaborating closely with World Learning and SIT Management, the NVEP Coordinator will work directly with program participants through immersive English language and cultural instruction at various locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging English language and cultural integration lessons to groups of 15 to 20 students (ages 12 and older), utilizing both in-person and virtual formats with a focus on communicative learning.
  • Create and implement assessment tools to evaluate student outcomes in partnership with the NVEP Coordinator and technical team.
  • Provide attendance and engagement reports as requested by program management.
  • Utilize learning management systems as directed by the NVEP Coordinator.
  • Participate in scheduled instructor team meetings.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities provided by the program.
  • Compile an end-of-course report detailing lessons learned and recommendations for future programs.
  • Conduct assessments on student performance in achieving learning objectives, including narrative evaluations of student progress.

Qualifications:


• Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL Certificate, or Master's degree in Education preferred.


• Experience: At least three years of experience in language program management and five years of classroom teaching experience.


• Language Proficiency: Native-level fluency in English or C2 level on the CEFR scale is required, along with excellent writing skills.


• Knowledge: Familiarity with communicative language teaching methodologies, ELT resources, American history and culture, and the use of technology to enhance learning.


• Management Skills: Proven ability to manage teaching staff, courses, and administrative processes; effective communication skills; and experience in strategic planning.


• Skills and Abilities: Strong cross-cultural teaching skills, leadership qualities, effective oral and written communication, and proficiency in MS Office and Google Cloud applications.


• Personal Attributes: Initiative, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:


• Knowledge of primary Afghan languages and cultural practices.


• Experience with U.S. Government grant management.
