Position Overview

The Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for examining and validating the financial records of various entities, including individuals and corporations, to assess their tax obligations to the municipality. This role involves conducting audits both in-office and at the taxpayer's location, ensuring adherence to local tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze taxpayer records to ensure compliance with municipal tax laws.
  • Conduct field audits and office audits, addressing routine to moderately complex accounts.
  • Prepare audit reports detailing findings and recommendations.
  • Assist taxpayers in understanding their tax liabilities and provide guidance on tax return submissions.
  • Stay updated on relevant tax laws and regulations affecting municipal taxation.
  • Collaborate with external agencies to ensure comprehensive compliance.

Qualifications

  • Two years of full-time experience in billing or customer service, preferably in a tax-related environment.
  • An Associate's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
  • Ability to substitute education and experience on a year-for-year basis to meet the total qualifying requirement of four years.

Additional Information

This position is classified as non-competitive and falls under the relevant labor union agreements. Candidates must comply with the organization's health and safety mandates, including vaccination requirements.
