Job Summary

The Dog Care Supervisor is a key member of our team at Leader Dogs for the Blind, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Canine Development Center. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a passion for animal care and welfare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the Dog Care team to ensure the highest level of care and service for our canine clients.
  • Develop and implement kennel enrichment and socialization activities to promote the physical and emotional well-being of our dogs.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Canine Care to provide volunteer opportunities and ensure the effective use of volunteer resources.
  • Manage the supply and ordering of dog equipment and inventory to ensure the smooth operation of the Canine Development Center.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for Dog Care team members and volunteers to ensure adequate coverage and staffing.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on proper work procedures and animal care techniques.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team to achieve the strategic objectives of the department.
  • Evaluate and support the placement of career change dogs to ensure their successful integration into our training programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience required; two years of previous work experience in customer service, cleaning, maintenance, and animal care-related areas preferred.
  • Previous experience in a kennel environment and basic dog training experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, volunteers, and external customers.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines; ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Comfortable and willing to work with large dogs in a kennel, on leash, and in various environments.
  • Ability to interact with blind and visually impaired clients with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Proficient in the latest version of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work shifts as assigned, including weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions

The physical demands of this role include frequent reaching, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching; occasional lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds; and occasional sitting, using the phone, and talking or hearing.
