Department: Food and Beverage Kitchen
Reports to: Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, or Other Department Manager or Director
General Purpose:
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and proper organization of all kitchen utensils, including dishes, pots, pans, flatware, and glassware. This role is essential in maintaining the overall hygiene of the kitchen environment, including dry storage areas and walk-in coolers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Efficiently washes dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen items using either a dish machine or manual methods.
- Assists in the organization and rotation of incoming supplies.
- Supports basic food preparation tasks as directed by the Chef or Food & Beverage Manager.
- Regularly empties kitchen trash receptacles and ensures proper disposal of waste.
- Stores all kitchenware in designated areas to maintain order.
- Conducts daily cleaning tasks, including dry storage, shelving, steam tables, hoods, and exhaust systems.
- Adheres to sanitation standards in all assigned areas.
- Maintains cleanliness of floors through sweeping and mopping.
- Reports any equipment malfunctions to the chef or supervisor promptly.
- Incorporates safe work practices into daily tasks.
- Exhibits regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs additional duties as necessary.
Education and Experience:
No prior experience or training is required for this position.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly stands, walks, and uses hands; frequently reaches with hands and arms. Occasionally sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes, or smells. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds regularly.
Work Environment:
- Frequently works in high-temperature conditions (non-weather related), in areas with moving mechanical parts, and with hazardous or caustic chemicals. Occasionally exposed to extreme cold (non-weather related). Moderate noise levels are typical.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Applicable Sanitation Training is preferred.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read and communicate in English may be necessary to perform job duties effectively, including interaction with English-speaking customers or colleagues and understanding equipment manuals.
