Job Title: Tax Director

George Washington University seeks a highly skilled Tax Director to join its Finance team. As a key member of the university's leadership, the Tax Director will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and filing of all required federal, state, and international tax returns.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and prepare tax returns, including Form 990, 990T, 5527/1041-A, 1042, Excise Tax, Telecommunications Tax, etc.
  • Collaborate with key personnel to collect and analyze financial information.
  • Direct the relationship with third-party service providers for tax compliance and consulting work.
  • Oversee the daily functions of the Tax Department and manage the tax compliance strategy.
  • Contribute to the professional development of tax staff.
  • Supervise tax staff in responding to questions and advising on tax reporting and withholding issues.
  • Manage university compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
  • Conduct tax research to determine university compliance obligations.
  • Supervise service to international faculty, students, and researchers.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Current CPA certificate is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate complex tax information to management and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
