The Enterprise Identity team leads the strategy and execution of our global authentication and authorization platform, serving all American Express applications for consumers, business users, and API partners.

What will you accomplish in this role?

You will have numerous opportunities to make a significant impact on technology and the American Express experience. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to a vital enterprise platform that facilitates global authentication and authorization across American Express.
  • Being an integral member of an agile team that embraces the latest development methodologies.
  • Writing code and unit tests, collaborating with API specifications and automation.
  • Identifying and implementing new technologies.
  • Collaborating within a scrum team of software engineers to develop the next generation of identity and access management solutions for our customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a scrum team utilizing agile methodologies for software delivery.
  • Strong technical and communication skills to effectively articulate and present solutions to complex challenges.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on software development experience with Java or a similar programming language.
  • Proficient in Object-oriented programming, particularly Java/J2EE, and frameworks such as Spring Boot.
  • Expertise in building, testing, maintaining, and debugging highly scalable and available production systems.
  • A BS degree or higher in computer science or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience in the following areas is advantageous:

  • Developing APIs using methodologies like REST, RPC (gRPC and similar), and Functions (AWS Lambda).
  • Knowledge of public internet and intranet authentication and authorization models utilizing JWT, OAuth, and OpenID.
  • Experience with Golang development.
  • Project experience with highly available and strongly consistent databases, whether traditional or key-value stores.
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases such as Oracle, DB2, Postgres, Cassandra, and MongoDB.
  • Proficiency with Splunk and Linux/Unix technologies.
